Have you done Zumba? Do you include it as part of your fitness routine?
It's not something that I normally do. I prefer running, strength training and yoga .. occasionally I'll step out of the box and do something different.
I have tried Zumba before .. two classes. When I did these 2 classes I made sure to steer clear of the mirrors ( really hard in a group fitness room! ) and planted myself at the back of the room behind several other participants. I have seen myself in the mirror doing Zumba. I look like a baby elephant. I'm afraid I just can't seem to get my hips to move the same way the instructors do.
A few weeks ago I received a copy of the new Zumba Core Fitness Wii game to have a crack at and tell you about it. So, what better way to do Zumba than in the privacy of your own lounge room?!
Please note that I don't think the game will guarantee abs like the girl above ... |
When you have energetic children and it's been raining so much the back yard is like a quagmire and there is only so much fighting over table tennis one can listen to, what should you do? Fire up the Zumba Core Fitness Wii game!!
The kids love it! Miss 11, who has been doing some form of dance since she was 4 years old is already at legend status. I choose not to tell her my current level .. I am still a struggling beginner. The less said here the better.
Mr 7 also loves it and he gets his Zumba on in the mornings after he is ready for school. I love seeing him try to get his hips moving!
Me, I do it when no one else is watching, it really isn't that pretty! But I will say that it is fun ( only if you can laugh at yourself! ) and it will get you moving, get your heart rate up and get you sweaty.
It's not like doing an entire class, you can choose to do just one song or customise a few that you like. Or you can choose to do varying length preset classes all with different intensity levels .. low, medium or high intensity. The first time I tried it I chose a 20 minute class and was quite happy to sit when it was over!
You can even do a learn the steps track .. but what's the fun there! Just jump in and go hard I say!
Don't think that I'm the only one who will be getting to enjoy this new game ... I've got a copy to giveaway! So you too can Zumba away and shake your booty in the privacy of your own lounge room!!

Hehe a baby elephant!
Looks like lots of fun, especially if you have coords:) Like you I prefer running, yoga and of course cycling. We don't have a Wii so I won't enter this one - looks like a great prize though.
Hi Fit Mum!
I think Zumba Core Fitness would be great! I used to love running and in the lead up to my wedding last year I was hitting the pavement and the treadmill obsessively.
On my Honeymoon I indulged a lot but also tried to keep up my fitness routine by going to the hotel gym and taking the stairs to our fifth storey suite.
It worked out great until I FELL down the stairs!! I did some serious damage to my ankle and haven't been able to run without pain since :(
I have been lucky enough to start using an elliptical trainer but I am looking for some thing a little more enjoyable that won't put too much strain on my ankle - I took a Zumba class last week and thought it was great, maybe Zubma Core Fitness is for me!?!
Also I really like your blog, it's been good inspiration for me lately as I try to find some alternatives to running.
Now that two of my daughters are at school, I have more time on my hands for myself, but at this stage, haven't done anything that productive with it!
I need to get back into exercising and looking after myself. Plus, we are heading off to sunny Queensland in about 5 weeks, so a better looking body would be nice!!!
I am currently addicted to wii zumba and I've lost cms around my body so this would be a great addition to my health kick activities!!! - MummyK themummyk@gmail.com
Winter's coming and I need to keep my winter belly and flab away. Zumba fitness would be perfect to do on those cold winter mornings when I don't even have to leave my house.

Hi Fit Mum! It takes me a bit to get motivated in the exercise department, but I get inspired to do something when I read your blogs; so I have been squeezing out some push ups and squats! Would love to give the Wii Zumba a go - coz it's something different and I can give it a go at home rather than in public. Was hoping for it for a xmas present but no such luck! TB
I love it when I can find something that is fun to do and is good exercise also, but I am so un-co, that I would never go to a class! Having this to do in my lounge room would be unreal...

I need to lose my wobbly tummy before the big day!
Would love to practice some Zumba steps and work on my co-ordination at home before attempting an actual class at the gym and totally embarass myself!

I can't enter as I don't have a Wii or XBox but love the idea of being able to exercise at home. Whether I would or not would depend on the enticement of the video / game on offer!
I just love Zumba but can't attend classes anymore because of clashes with my uni schedule :( would LOVE the chance to do some at home on my Wii!!!!! How fun!
Thanks for the chance :)
I'd really love Zumba to work on my core! To stop my poor tummy from hitting the floor!! I'll try to keep from falling as I twist and I twirl, with my two 'left feet' - it should be a whirl!:)

Fantastic! love it and fingerscrossed for Zumba! tara_j_parish@yahoo.com.au
I would love to try out the new Wii Zumba core game. For the past few weeks, haven't been able to make it to any pilates, body balance or yoga classes at the gym. I could do my core workouts at home with this fun-sounding Wii game.
I'd love to see for myself how good it actually is as I am a little skeptical about things like this arballantyne@dodo.com.au
The last of my babies started full time school this year so i have decided its time for me to do something for myself and get into shape, i love dancing so zumba really appeals to me.
