My Muesli
I love muesli and I've tried almost everything on offer in the supermarkets. Some are really nice but my concern is the amount of extra sugar that they add. So, I decided to start making my own. I've tried various recipes from toasted, bircher, natural and I really love the fresh taste of home made muesli and that extra special feeling that you get from making your own!
The recipe below has to be my favourite of all that I have made and I make it nearly every week. Even hubby likes it!
3 cups Rolled Oats
1 cup granola*
Handful of flaked almonds
Handful of shaved coconutHandful of cranberries and dried fruit medley
2 tablespoons flaxseeds ( or linseeds )*
2 tablespoons pepitas*
2 tablespoons sunflower seeds*
Mix it all together and keep in an airtight container.
My favourite way to serve is with berries and low fat milk. It's also really yummy on top of some natural yoghurt.
The only thing I will add is to watch the amount of dried fruit you thrown in as this can really increase the amount of sugar. You would want to count it as at least a half a serve for the day.
* The granola is optional, I don't use this all the time, just as a treat sometimes! I get a bit of extra sugar but I like the crunch. I use Mrs Flannery's blueberry granola.
You can use whichever seeds you prefer. I use the ones listed or sesame or chia sometimes.
